Sausage Ramen is the loaded ramen bowl you crave. Crispy sausage and sauteed onion is perfect and you’ll love this quick and light meal.
What Do You Use For Seasoning?
Your first question may be “What do you use for seasoning in this sausage ramen?” You’ll see right away that I’ve removed the ramen seasoning packets.
I prefer to use Goya Sazon, not only for its flavor but also for its color. It gives the sausage and ramen noodles a beautiful orange color because of the achiote.

Goya Sazon Copycat
Goya Sazon is an inexpensive seasoning, great in so many things. But, if you’re unable to find it, you can make your own!
Measure out one teaspoon each of:
- Salt
- Black Pepper
- Garlic Powder
- Cumin
- Achiote
Use one teaspoon of the mixed seasoning blend as you would one packet of Sazon. If you’re unable to find achiote, use dark red chile powder instead. It won’t give you the same taste, but may give you some of the color.
Store the seasoning in an airtight container. You can add it to roast, soups, stews and more!
Homemade Ramen Noodles
If you don’t want to use the blocks of ramen, check out Serious Eats. Homemade ramen noodles really are a possibility!
It looks like you only need bread flour, wheat gluten, salt and baking soda. We have all of those things in the pantry now. Sounds like a fun experiment, doesn’t it?! And, wow, that would be so much more healthy for you.
Ramen Noodles Are So Popular!
To be honest, the aisle in the grocery store for Ramen noodles was completely cleared out during the 2020 panic buying so I know that I’m not alone in wanting to eat Ramen noodles.
A lot of you have it in your pantry. No judgment from me. Why not try something to upgrade those noodles? Ramen with sausage is perfect for that!
Ingredients
It doesn’t take many ingredients to hack your Ramen noodles and turn them into something incredible.
- Ramen Noodles
- Onion
- Kielbasa Smoked Sausage (half a link)
- Olive Oil and Seasonings
If you’re looking for a quicker fix, try using ONE of the seasoning packets from the Ramen noodles instead of the Goya Seasoning. There is no reason at all to use two Ramen seasoning packets.
You can also use my Seasoning Salt Blend.

Such a simple and easy to make tasty light meal. Ideal for days when you just want something quick and fuss free. I totally agree with leaving out the seasoning sachet, they have way too much added flavours in them.

Great recipe Christian I’m a NYer but my Mom is Japanese (father was from US with English background) so I grew up with a lot of Japanese influences in the household. A lot of this centered around Japanese cuisine & ramen, of course. Ramen is one of my favorite meals & comfort foods.
I can eat the $1 Maruchen ramen packs to fresh ramen from a good Japanese restaurant. The possibilities with ramen are endless as you can season it in myriad ways & add various meats & veggies. As far as the store bought ramen soup packs, definitely chop it in half. You can make a nice soy garlic broth simply by using some of the packets & adding soy sauce & some sauteed garlic to the broth. Also, a nice addition which adds some kick is spicy sesame oil. One of the better dry store bought ramens that I am now loving is the ramen packs from Public Goods.
One of the ramen recipes I developed while craving ramen in the Army barracks has a Mexican bent to it. You’ll need some chorizo, ortego green chilis, 2-3 eggs, 2 potatoes, 1 onion, garlic clove, soy sauce & optional cayenne pepper & spicy sesame oil. You cook this pretty much the same way as Christisn. I diced the sausage to get those crispy chunks. Boil the potatoes & then add them to the pan of onions & garlic sautéing in the sausage pan (sausage put on side). Get the potatoes crispy like home fries. Dust them with salt, pepper & cayenne. In a separate pan scramble or boil the eggs. Cook the ramen, and after 3-4 mins near end of ramen cooking add your seasoning packet. I like my ramen to have minimal broth. Add the chorizo sausage, green chiles, & add a few shots of soy sauce & drops of sesame oil. Garnish with scrambled eggs or sliced boiled egg. You can let it cook or sir for 30-60sec for some of the cooler ingredients to get some warmth. This has some zest from the spice, green chiles & chorizo. The potatoes make it hearth & the eggs give it more protein & nutrition. I also like adding bok choi or sauteed cabbage & broccoli to give it some veggies & color. The possibilities are endless. I’m starting to get hungry!
Cheers!
Kenji

Which Goya Sazon do you use ?
Christian Guzman says
I usually use the little packets in achiote flavor but I’ve also used the saffron flavor occasionally. There are other flavors, but those are the two I use the most. Thank you for writing!
